Insulated Packing Materials |
Information on our insulated packing materials and recycling possibilities:
Our parcel shipments of chocolate will be in boxes insulated with EPS foam sheets and gel ice packs to keep the chocolate at the right temperature.
We are constantly looking for better ways to reduce our environmental footprint. After examining an array of insulations, we were surprised to conclude that we should ship with EPS because it was the only insulation we found to be recyclable.*
Here are a few suggestions on how to find a recycling location near you:
- Drop-off or curbside: If you already have a recycling service in your area or curbside recycling, check with them to see if they accept #6 Plastic (expanded polystyrene). You can search for centers & curbside at www.earth911.org or by visiting http://www.epspackaging.org/info.html to download a .pdf file with a list of drop off areas around the U.S. We recommend that you call to verify first before striking out to a drop-off center or putting the sheets in your curbside bin.
- UPS Stores: Search for a UPS store near you and call them to find out if they accept #6 Plastic (Polystyrene) for recycling. Some do but some don't; the stores are independently owned franchises so it varies from store to store.
- Send it away: If there are no EPS recycling options in your area, you can mail EPS to the Alliance for Foam Packaging Recyclers. See instructions at www.epspackaging.org/info.
Gel Ice Packs are re-freezable and non-toxic. We encourage you to reuse them! They are great refrigerants for your cooler and can be used to ice sore joints or muscles.
