Have a Fairly Traded Holiday- and a Sustainable New Year!
By Esther West, Interfaith Program Representative

Finding meaningful gifts can be challenging, especially in the holiday frenzy. Here are some ideas that are tasty, affordable, and help create positive change in small farming communities around the world! Fairly traded gifts remind us that we can support people empowering themselves through co-operation.

Check out the below ideas to add a personal touch to your Equal Exchange gifts:
  • Repackage our Organic Dark Chocolate Minis in small (recycled or reused) paper bags to assemble adorable stocking stuffers, Chanukah Gelt or gift fair items.

  • Create cornucopias for guests at the table filled with Equal Exchange Organic Dark Chocolate Minis and our line of Organic Dried Sweetened Cranberries, Roasted Salted Pecans, and Organic Tamari Roasted Almonds grown by small farmers in the United States.

  • Decorate packages of Equal Exchange coffee and cocoa with stickers, shiny ribbon and gift tags for gift-giving.

  • Fill travel mugs with Equal Exchange Organic Dark Chocolate Minis or organic fairly traded tea bags.

  • Repackage Bulk Organic Hot Cocoa Mix in decorative baggies and put them in attractive mugs for gifts. Include a profile of the CONACADO small farmer co-operative that produces the cacao.

  • Make Mint Chocolate Filled Cupcakes (see photo). Decorate them with crushed candy canes for that additional festive touch!

  • Fill stockings hung gently with care with Equal Exchange chocolates and our Organic Dried Sweetened Cranberries, Roasted Salted Pecans, and Organic Tamari Roasted Almonds.

  • For holiday gatherings, create Equal Exchange small-scale farmer Organic Pyramid Tea holiday favors by attaching ribbons to the top of the tea boxes and hanging them on your mantle or tree. Guests can choose one to take home (see photo).

  • Bake a cake and sprinkle a finely ground dusting of coffee or cocoa with a holiday stencil on top to add fair holiday embellishment.

  • Do a baking swap with recipes that include fairly traded ingredients! Each person can share a baked good using Equal Exchange’s fairly traded products along with enough copies of the recipe for everyone at the festivity.

  • Education about the small farmer co-operatives that grow and produce Equal Exchange products make these gifts even more meaningful. Include a profile of the small farmer co-operative your product came from with your gift. Find profiles here.

    HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
