"Food sovereignty" is a term originally used by members of Via Campesina to refer to the right of peoples to define their own food, agriculture, livestock and fisheries systems, in contrast to having food largely subject to international market forces. It is largely advocated by a number of farmers, peasants, indigenous peoples, and women’s, rural youth and environmental organizations.
